Hello Friends, and welcome to the Assink Acres Blog! I am thrilled to be able to have this platform to be able to write about all our farm happenings. I hope to be able to share our successes, struggles and lessons from the farm in an organized way to help others along this journey in the future. Please give us patience as we get this site up and running!
Until then... please enjoy a short story about Bingo the Chicken.
This is a picture of Bingo as a scraggly, awkward "teenager". I only decided to add a young photo of her because I am positive that all of you will know her well. Bingo is a Cinnamon Queen... or at least that's what Blain's claimed. She, along with our other cinnamon queen, Star had a rough beginning. Right when we got them home we noticed that they had "poopy butt". So off to the races we went. We started googling things we never thought we'd search. Things such as "Chick Poopy butt what to do". The short answer? Use a Q-tip and olive oil and wipe their butts until the poop comes off. Make sure they stay at the right temperature consistently afterwards. But enough of that. From day one we knew she was special. She was just a little extra. She does things most chickens wouldn't dare do.
One day Jacob walked outside to this glorious sight. Bingo, on our kids trampoline. Granted the children baited her there with food... however none of the others dared to fly up there! Obviously a picture had to be taken... I mean, when's the last time you saw a chicken on a trampoline? Needless to say, Bingo's gymnastics career was shattered when Jacob ended up cleaning off the tramp. Poor Bingo...
